Civic Minded is a civic tech organization dedicated to transforming how citizens engage with legislative actions in the United States. We aim to bring summaries of laws and decisions that impact your daily life right to you.
We believe that democracy works best when everyone can understand what’s happening behind the scenes — not just lawyers, lobbyists, or politicians. That’s why we’re building tools that translate complex legislative language into clear, accessible insights for all.
Our objective is to get accessible information into your hands to empower each citizen to confidently engage with it, with neighbors and friends, and with your Representatives.
This part is likely supposed to be formally written, but formal isn’t really my style.
My goal with Civic Minded isn’t to change anyone’s political leaning. My goal is to better equip each of us to discuss and make decisions based on unbiased concrete information– to really bring civics and civic engagement home.
My name is Raven. For several years, I have been struggling with the challenge of holding conversations around policy and legislation as it all seems to devolve into politicians narratives and “he said/she said” . I feel we all have at least one person close to us that we are SURE we can agree on base matters, but we just don’t have a shared factual (not someone’s edits) version to work from.
I will be honest- I nerd out over how some legislation is structured and a complex court ruling… but these things are insanely time consuming even after you find the information. And life is busy. time is at a premium— striking that balance between wanting to be engaged and actually being able to engage is rough! I’m hoping if I buckle up and invest a bit more time, I can help bring better engagement more within reach for all of us.
